Transmission

Regional Transmission Organizations

Across the country, Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) manage the flow of electricity across the power grid and minimize risks to the reliability of local power supplies. These organizations carry out the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's vision of independence to ensure the smooth flow of electricity in a competitive wholesale marketplace. Wabash Valley Power and its member distribution systems fall under two RTOs: MISO and PJM Interconnection.

MISO

Wabash Valley Power is a charter member of the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO). Based in Carmel, Ind., MISO's more than 700 employees oversee transmission in 15 states and the Canadian province of Manitoba. In addition, MISO manages one of the world's largest energy markets, the Midwest Markets. To visit MISO's Web site, click here.

PJM Interconnection

PJM Interconnection serves more than 450 members in 13 states and the District of Columbia from its headquarters in Valley Forge, Penn. In addition to monitoring the transmission grid for much of the eastern United States, PJM also manages the energy markets in each region. To visit PJM's Web site, click here.
